Railway Cottage sleeps 4/5 people and is located at Newbridge (nr. Pickering), the gateway to the stunning North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
Newly restored in 2009, this comfortable, 3 star, former railway workers cottage will appeal to steam railway enthusiasts, walkers and families alike - the majestic steam locomotives of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) actually pass, and stop, in front of the lounge and master bedroom windows as they proceed at “snail’s pace” past the adjacent level crossing/signal box! The line is privately and exclusively used by the NYMR (so please note that there are no fast main line trains!) - recently Goathland station was featured as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter!
The cottage is situated within a small, quiet hamlet, and yet benefits from being within only 15 minutes easy walking distance of the market town of Pickering, with its supermarkets, shops, traditional pubs, wide choice of restaurants and, of course, famous steam railway station.
This is one of the most interesting & picturesque areas of England, with a wide range of “must see” tourist attractions within easy reach. Guests of the cottage can look forward to a choice of days out including:
A visit, to “Aidensfield”, the setting of “Heartbeat” in Goathland
The seaside resorts of Scarborough & Whitby (frequented by Count Dracula!)
The historic city of York and its famous Minster
The market town of Helmsley
Castle Howard - one of Britain’s finest historic houses
Thornton-le-Dale with its thatched cottage
Dalby Forest - for cycling and nature-watching
Flamingoland Zoo and Theme Park
The McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village
The cottage is available all year-round (including short term lets). It has its own parking and a private patio for alfresco dining. Changeover day is flexible.
For some additional holiday luxury, guests may order from a range of “home cooked” traditional Yorkshire meals that will be delivered directly to the cottage!
